At Herzog & de Meuron's celebrated West Village building, William McIntosh Design created a quietly extraordinary apartment for a real estate leader and his wife, a devoted yoga practitioner and teacher. Their brief was precise: a comfortably contemporary residence with subtle Eastern and Orientalist sensibilities — a private, meditative retreat that could nonetheless accommodate a generous circle of family and friends.

The design speaks in textures and layers. Hand-blocked cotton prints, vintage rugs transformed into cushions, and plush neutrals build a palette of considered warmth, while complex handcrafted metals and woods introduce depth and a subtle theatricality. Furnishings by T.H. Robsjohn-Gibbings and Marc du Plantier bring classical proportion and mid-century authority, balanced by the precision of contemporary lighting by Apparatus. A home office, guest bedroom, and guest bath complete the plan — each room sharing the same unhurried calm as the rest. Works by Jill Nathanson complete the atmosphere — color-rich and contemplative, entirely in harmony with the spirit of the home. William McIntosh Design also served as art advisor, sourcing and placing works in close collaboration with the clients to build a collection that reflects their inner lives as fully as the interiors themselves.
