Overlooking Madison Square Park from the upper floors, this 6,000-square-foot family apartment was conceived for the CEO of a financial advisory firm, his fitness entrepreneur wife, and their two children as a setting of genuine power — a home in which architecture and art reinforce one another at every turn.
The design, led by William McIntosh Design Creative Director Martin Raffone, establishes a formal sequence of spaces calibrated to receive a collection of museum quality. No expense was spared in the conception and execution of the unique finish materials and custom components; Hervé van der Straeten and Christian Liaigre furnishings provide structure and refinement throughout — in the entry, the living and dining rooms, the den, the primary suite and baths, and the home office — while the art collection commands the walls and volumes with quiet authority.
The roster of artists is extraordinary: Vik Muniz, Jannis Kounellis, Patrick Wilson, Richard Serra, Callum Innes, Mel Bochner, Tim Rollins, Barbara Bloom, Damien Hirst, John Baldessari, Tony Oursler, Louise Lawler, Ross Bleckner, Aaron Young, Loris Cecchini, Wolfgang Tillmans, Cindy Sherman, Yayoi Kusama, Lynette Yiadom-Boakye, Ghada Amer, David Salle, and Jim Lambie are distributed throughout the apartment with the rigor and generosity of a serious private institution. The result is a home that functions with equal ease for family life, private entertaining, and charitable events of scale.
