The reimagining of this 12,000-square-foot 1920s manor house for an executive chairman and his philanthropist wife was an act of both conservation and curation. William McIntosh Design was asked not only to undertake a sensitive restoration and modernization of the existing structure, but to assemble additional works and furnishings that would build upon, complement, and invigorate an existing collection of extraordinary quality.

The result is a home in which Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso share walls with Donald Judd and Anish Kapoor; where René Magritte's dreamlike imagery is answered by a sinuous cabinet by Achille Salvagni, and a monumental Judd sculpture anchors the principal rooms with characteristic severity. Works by Les Lalannes, Jean Dubuffet, Marc Chagall, and Rashid Johnson complete a collection spanning a century of art history — each acquisition, original or new, given a setting worthy of it.

The furnishings are equally considered: pieces by Emile-Jacques Ruhlmann, Jules Leleu, Jacques Adnet, and Alberto Giacometti anchor the historic rooms, while Mattia Bonetti, Elizabeth Garouste, Ayala Serfaty, Fredrikson Stallard, Sebastian Brajkovic, and Joy Rohan Chabot introduce a contemporary vitality. Works by Nathalie Ziegler Pasqua, Marc Bankowsky & Miguel Cisterna, Hubert Le Gall, Jean-Marie Fioro, Thomas Pheasant, and Paul Mathieu complete an ensemble of rare ambition and rare coherence — a private collection that has arrived, through this commission, at its fullest and most considered expression, the house and its contents inseparable from one another.
