On a quiet, tree-lined block in New York, this landmark limestone townhouse was conceived for the founder of a global equities firm and his family as the primary among several residences — and a permanent expression of cultivated private life. William McIntosh Design oversaw every aspect of this multi-year commission, assembling a team of master artisans and craftspeople whose work is visible in every room, at every scale.

Custom bronze metalwork inspired by the elegant restraint of Jacques Adnet runs throughout the house, complemented by gilt-edged plaster details executed by Foster Reeves and a unique bas-relief commissioned for the entrance sequence. Fortuny fabrics and hand-knotted silk carpets anchor the principal rooms, while lighting by Pavo Tynel casts each space in warm, considered light. Furnishings by Pierre Chareau and Hervé van der Straeten were selected for their sculptural authority and their ease alongside art of serious consequence.

The collection includes paintings and works by Enrico Castellani, Lucio Fontana, and Nabil Nahas — each given space to breathe within rooms designed as much for quiet contemplation as for entertaining. The entrance sequence gives way to a series of generously scaled principal rooms — a living room, dining room, and intimate den — each with its own distinct character and atmosphere. The primary suite above is a composed retreat, with a dressing room and bath of considered luxury. Below grade, a sky-lit indoor pool completes the house with a sense of quiet splendor entirely in keeping with what precedes it. A dramatic double-height sitting room at the top of the house anchors the vertical procession, looking out over the rooftops of the city. The result is a house of uncommon integrity — sunny in spirit, uncompromising in its craft.
